ALPHA AND OMEGA    (2010)
                                         SYNOPSIS

What makes for the ultimate road trip? Hitchhiking,
truck stops, angry bears, prickly porcupines and a
golfing goose with a duck caddy. Just ask Kate and
Humphrey, two wolves who are trying to get home after
being taken by park rangers and shipped halfway
across the country. Humphrey is an Omega wolf,
whose days are about quick wit, snappy one-liners and
hanging with his motley crew of fun-loving wolves and
video-gaming squirrels. Kate is an Alpha:  duty,
discipline and sleek Lara Croft eye-popping moves fuel
her fire. Humphrey’s motto – make ‘em laugh. Kate’s
motto – I’m the boss.  And they have a thousand miles
to go.

Back home rival wolf packs are on the march and
conflict is brewing. Only Kate and Humphrey can
restore the peace.  But first, they have to survive each
other.--© Lionsgate

Writer Steve Moore brings Alpha and Omega another animated film about talking wild life to the big
screen; however, this cast is not as entertaining as Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher are in Moore’s
2006 animated film
Open Season.  Humphrey (voiced by Justin Long) is an Omega wolf, also known as the
comedians in the pack and Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere) is an Alpha wolf, also known as the strong
leaders in the pack.   Due to pack rules an Alpha must marry only and Alpha and an Omega must only
marry an Omega.  This causes a little issue for Humphrey because he has a crush on his beautiful
childhood friend Kate.  Kate overhears her father, Winston, (Danny Glover) speaking with the leader of the
eastern tribe, Tony (the late Dennis Hopper) and she hears Tony mention that there needs to be a union
between the eastern and western packs or else the eastern pack will attack the western pack in order to
obtain hunting rites on their land.  Kate realizes this means she must marry Tony’s son, Garth (Chris
Carmack).  After her first date with Garth Kate is repulsed by him and wanders out on her own.  Humphrey
notices she is unhappy with her date and tries to take advantage of the situation.  While flirtatiously
arguing they are shot with tranquilizer darts and then shipped out to a reserve in the United States.  Kate is
aware that if she does not get back to their reserve in Canada soon there will be a battle between the
eastern and western packs.  Humphrey is aware that if he is able to get her back home he may have a
chance at swooning her; so, with the help of two birds Marcel (Larry Miller) and Paddy (Eric Price) they
start the long trek home.  On their trip back they happen upon many obstacles and realize they bring out
the best in one another.   The banter between Kate and Humphrey is lighthearted and fun; however, the
story is predictable and overdone.  The 3D is good and overall the movie is entertaining, but it is definitely
no comparison to Disney or Pixar.  We are giving it 2 out of 4 stars for the kids!
