BOOGEYMAN

Young Tim Jenson (Barry Watson) can't
convince his dad that there really is a very bad
being in the closet, until it's too late. The
unsuspecting man is torn from the room by a
powerful force of evil, never to return.
Unfortunately, the monster that swept away his
father is much more than the product of a child's
over active imagination. As a result of the
incident, Timmy must spend the rest of his days
a fatherless child, haunted by the memories of
the night Mr. Jenson checked his closet at
bedtime.
Haunted by his childhood memories, Tim, now a
grown man, feels he must return to his home
and face his demon. Some may feel that this is
an unwise approach, but Tim's former mental
health care professional gives him the nod of
approval.
Somehow, Tim has managed to keep his terrible
secret from his fiance, Kate (Emily Deschanel).
But the time has come that he must flee his
prenuptial festivities and do what he has to do.
Bewildered, Kate bids him a safe trip. Old flame,
Franny (Skye McCole Bartusiak) is still back in
the old hometown and ready to lend a hand.
Brenda's comments
Director Stephen Kay manages to make my
spine tingle a few times, and that's my
litmus test of a thriller. The plot is a bit thin
by the conclusion, but the effects are quite
gripping. No notables as far as acting goes,
but they manage to tell the story effectively
on a low budget.
Mary's comments
Prior to screening this film, I had no idea
that the Boogeyman is strictly a closet
monster. Or that “Boogeyman” is spelled
with two O’s. Live and learn. Mildly
frightening due to loud noise bursts and
flashes of extreme ugliness, I found myself
wondering how they were going to stretch
it out for an hour and a half. But they did.
