BROKEN LIZARD'S CLUB DREAD
The, sometimes very funny, Broken Lizard
comedy troupe has come up with even another
parody of teen slasher movies. How many quarts
of fake blood must be lost before someone calls
a halt to these spoofs? Obviously, it's too late for
this one. Release is imminent and the product is
not the clever, campy humor that we have come
to expect from the Broken Lizard.
All of the action takes place on an island, home
of one of those all inclusive, fun, exotic, swinging
vacation packages, off the coast of the Costa
Rica. The owner of the island paradise is an
ex-rocker from the 80's, and he's a pretty laid
back, or permanently wasted, dude. Things are
cool and a good time is being had by all when,
suddenly, a machete wielding maniac is loose on
the island.
The target of the maniac is the resort staff, and
they disappear one by one, like Ten Little Indians.
Things are cool until the guests finally get wise
and panic.
Mary’s comments
This one is not worth seeing. The old
Broken Lizard must really be busted flat
this time. Everyone harkens back to Super
Troopers to try to remember a time when
things were better, and funnier, in Lizard
Land, but the clever humor is just not
present in this one.
Brenda’s comments
Everyone loves a good parody, but this
movie will not be one of the beloved. It's a
spoof of the old slasher movies, but a poor
one. Not near enough laughs to fill up the
running time. In fact, they fall about an hour
and a half short, and that's not good.
Neither is the movie.
