THE BROWN BUNNY
Vincent Gallo does it all in this long, boring road
trip movie that ends abruptly with a seldom
screened sex act. Just how long the audience
is willing to wait might be the difference
between the success and failure of this
monotonous film. Don't be fooled by the titular
Brown Bunny. He has a very brief appearance
around the middle of the movie, and does
nothing to dilute the fact that an NC-17 rating is
appropriate. Of course, that's just due to the
final scene.

As for the plot, motorcycle racer Bud Clay
(Vincent Gallo), packs up his gear from a race
in New Hampshire and begins his arduous trek
home to California, where we expect to find his
true love waiting. Along the way he picks up a
few ladies, all of whom prove to be not what he
is looking for in a lover. And all of whom are
named after flowers. Whatever that means.
Many of the long road scenes are shot through
the bug-splattered windshield of his vehicle.
After about and hour, the bugs become more
interesting than the trip. And you'll never guess
who wrote this masterpiece, Vincent Gallo.
Practically a one-man endeavor.
Brenda’s comments
Vincent Gallo wrote, directed and starred in
this film. The obvious question is, why is the
boring road trip about 85 minutes and the
sex act only about 5 minutes? Not worth an
hour and a half of your time, or even a
rental fee.
Mary’s comments
I would have much preferred a documentary
about the little brown bunny which makes
the brief appearance around the middle of
the trip to California. Actually, almost
anything would have been preferable to the
long drive with Bud. I’ll take a Greyhound
next time. Even if I had a “free rental”
coupon from the video store, I’d skip this
one.
