BURIED (2010)
SYNOPSIS
Paul Conroy is not ready to die.
But when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea
of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver
and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for
survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his
contact with the outside world and ability to piece
together clues that could help him discover his location
are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly
draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply
become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race
against time- fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul
has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst
nightmare comes true.

Rodrigo Cortez makes his smashing directorial debut with Buried starring the talented Ryan Reynolds (The
Proposal, Waiting). Paul Conroy (Reynolds) is an American truck driving delivering supplies in Iraq
finishing up a 9 month stretch in the Middle East. His convoy gets attacked and Conroy wakes up in an old
wooden coffin buried under the ground. Conroy is left with a cell phone and some other supplies. He
hastily scrambles to get in touch with someone from the United States to rescue him while his tormentors
continue to harass him through the cell. It’s hard to believe a 90 minute movie that takes place entirely in
a wooden coffin would not get redundant and boring; however, Reynolds gives an award-winning
performance and with Cortez’s directorial genius, the movie is a true masterpiece. This intense thriller,
with its brilliant camera angles, transports the audience into the wooden box with Reynolds and the
audience is able to feel every emotion exerted by Reynolds stellar performance.
