THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK
In this sequel to Pitch Black, the action picks up
again five years later as Riddick (Vin Diesel), an
escaped convict gets inadvertently involved in a
battle for world domination. Seems as if he's just
on the wrong planet at the wrong time. Stuck in
the middle between two warring factions,
Riddick sides with the Elementals against the
Necromongers, led by the Lord Marshall (Colm
Feore).
Soon Riddick's origins come into play as he
fights in the tenth Crusade in the 26th century
against the evil, half dead Necromongers. And it
is all because of his background that the fight
has great meaning for him and his Elemental
allies.
No matter what planet Riddick ends up on there
is a thread of a love interest, and this endeavor is
no different. A young girl from his past has grown
into a beautiful, capable woman (Alexa Davalos)
and, not surprisingly, they meet again. The
sparks that fly may not be only from the galactic
storms, or the weapons of war.
Brenda’s comments
Who are these folks and why are they at
war? Religious differences seem to be the
problem, but can't we just all get along?
More story and less action might have
made for a better science fiction tale. As it
stands, I'm left as cold as the nights in the
subterranean prison in the film. Judi Dench
is out of her "Element" in this one. Did
anyone save the universe, I lost track?
Mary’s comments
A very confusing plot with too much blurred
action (used here to accentuate fast
motion) makes this movie a chore to watch.
So many aspects of the situation between
the good guys and the bad guys are left
unexplained. More in the dark than if I were
back in Pitch Black, the action scenes are
pretty good, but it would be nice to know
what is going on and what precipitated all
the fighting. Wait for the home video
version if you must see Vin in this sci-fi,
action flick.
