Max the cab driver (Jamie Foxx) picks up a fare
one night in Los Angeles and his life is forever
changed. Just on the verge of passing up Max's
cab, Vincent (Tom Cruise) is hearkened by the ill
fated cabby. Soon Vincent flashes some big cash
in return for Max's services for the evening.
There will be several short stops and starts, and
a final trip to LAX. Nothing complicated.
The money is just too good to pass on, so Max
agrees to the arrangement, no questions asked.
Soon his nightmare begins as he is swept into a
world of crime and violence, with no exits in
sight. Can he make it through the night?

Another triumph for director Michael Mann
('Manhunter,' and the 'Miami Vice' TV series) and
Dreamworks, this thriller captures its audience
and just won't let go. The character studies give
depth to the "in your face," one-man crime spree
tale. Tom Cruise is Vincent, a detached
stone-cold killer, amoral at best. And Jamie
Foxx's Max the cabbie is thinking so hard we can
see the wheels turning in his head as he tries to
put a halt to Vincent's agenda, and save himself
and his new friend Annie (Jada Pinkett-Smith).
Start the meter and fasten your seat belts
Mary’s comments
An exciting crime/thriller that will get your
heart pumping, awaits you with this one.
Tom Cruise is great as the sociopathic bad
guy. His accomplishment is in his complete
detachment from his work. It makes
Vincent a scary, believable entity. The
nighttime setting adds volumes to the fright
factor. See it, it's a long, frightening ride.
Brenda’s comments
Standout performances by Jamie Foxx and
Tom Cruise. Very believable characters set
in the dark LA night, make a very
compelling plot come to life. Much of the
dialogue takes place in the cab. The tension
is so thick you will almost feel beads of
perspiration forming on your upper lip.
Quite a ride.
