CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE DRAMA QUEEN
When Mary (Lindsay Lohan) is forced by her
mother to move from her beloved New York City
to a suburb in New Jersey, her world spins out of
control. And when it stops, there she is in a very
average high school facing all of the stock
problems that a new kid has to face. With no
friends and a wardrobe right out of a Soho thrift
shop, Mary changes her name to Lola and tries
to survive the transition.

She finds a kindred soul (Alison Pill) who
worships the same rock band, Sidarthur. And
she tries out for the leading role in the school
play. Not a good move, since she alienates the
most popular and powerful girl at school (Megan
Fox) who is also trying out. Potential cat fight
material, but, thank goodness, it doesn't come to
that.

A very convoluted plot is concocted by the girls
and their cohorts to escape to the Big Apple to
attend the farewell concert of Sidarthur. Much
plotting goes into the plan and even more time is
spent executing it. Perhaps too much time
unless you are a female under the age of thirteen.
Mary’s comments
Not in the intended demographic, I found
the little story to be quite boring but totally
innocuous. A fine film for a preteen girl and
her mother to attend. Don't even bother to
ask dad, he'll escape one way or another.
Nothing too hot, some sexy costumes, but
even those are mild by today's standards.
Brenda’s comments
Hard to remember the way the thirteen year
old female mind works, but I'll try. The word
"crush" comes to mind. The two girlfriends
in the movie are totally caught up in the idea
of having a romantic fling with the two band
members that they are seeking in New York
City. Totally! The young girls in the audience
seem to be all right with this tale of teen
angst and infatuation, so it hit its targeted
audience quite well.
