GARFIELD:  THE MOVIE
Jon (Breckin Meyer) and Garfield are living the
perfect pet owner/pet existence when all of a
sudden their world is rocked by the introduction
of a dog, Odie, into the Arbuckle household.

Resentment is rampant after lovely veterinarian
Liz Wilson (Jennifer Love Hewitt) charms Jon into
adopting the slobberingly friendly, simple dog. His
stupidity and irritatingly friendly attitude are like
sandpaper to Garfield, who is used to being Jon's
only pet.

Due to Garfield's manipulations, Odie becomes
hopelessly separated from the household. So it is
up to Garfield to right the wrong that has been
committed against the intellectually challenged
dog, Odie. Lazy though he seems to be, the big
stripped cat jumps into action performing
numerous unselfish acts of bravery to save his
new friend and family member.
Mary'c comment
I have enjoyed Garfield in the comic strip for
years, but not on the big screen. Way too
little substance even for a kids' movie,
makes for a very boring experience. Hopes
that the charm of the comic strip character
would translate to the screen were dashed
almost immediately. Jim Davis should be
irate at what they have done to his
charming character. The story is so very
shallow that only the very young can sit
through it without squirming, and they are
asleep. Draw numbers to see who has to
take the children to this one.
Brenda's comment
Very suitable movie for a family outing with
the little ones in mind. Adults in the
audience may be put off by the simple
story, but it's just about right for the
targeted group. I must admit, the Garfield of
the comics is more entertaining for the
parents than is the big screen
interpretation of the lazy, lasagna eating
feline.
