THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU
A poor man's Jacques Cousteau, wacky Steve
Zissou (Bill Murray) and his motley, almost bankrupt,
crew, Team Zissou, are about to venture out onto
the high sea on a mission of scientific discovery and
revenge. You decide which takes precedent. If it's up
to Steve, there is no doubt. On a previous trip, his
best friend was consumed by a heretofore
never-before-seen variety of shark. And Steve is out
to find it and kill it. Er, rather, log it.

Director Wes Anderson has his hands full with
innumerable subplots and asides that all make the
film the quirky masterpiece that it is. Could you
expect any less from the man who brought you the
Tenenbaums? And like The Royal Tenenbaums,
Team Zissou is rife with talent, Anjelica Huston as
Steve's estranged wife, Cate Blanchette as an
embedded reporter on the voyage, and Owen Wilson
as Steve's wannabe bastard son.

This Touchstone release contains pirates,
kidnapping, and a host of other zany complications.
Mary's Comment
Wes Anderson has a way of working
outside the box that appeals to some of us
who have been existing outside of the box
for years. The others will just shake their
heads and wonder what the joke is. Better
seen more than once, this film has more
substance than one viewing can unfold.
Funny substance, but still substance. Not
profound substance...
Brenda's Comment
Wait for the video. This one is probably best
viewed in the confines of one's own home.
It doesn't need a theater to tell its simple,
silly tale of revenge. A small screen will do
fine. The story lacks enough substance to
carry the action for almost two hours.
Talented cast, doing a strange little story.
