THE LUCKY ONES   2008)
                                         SYNOPSIS

A timely drama about life in America today, The Lucky
Ones stars Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins and Michael
Peña as three soldiers on leave trying to make sense
of their lives during an unexpected road trip across the
United States. A humorous, moving portrayal about the
challenges of coming home, The Lucky Ones is
directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist) from a
screenplay by Burger and Dirk Wittenborn.

After being wounded in Iraq, Sgt. TK Poole (Michael
Peña) and Pvt. Colee Dunn (Rachel McAdams) have
been granted 30-day leaves of absence in the U.S.
while Cpl. Fred Cheever (Tim Robbins), who is also
injured, is scheduled to leave the military altogether.
But when an electrical blackout cancels all flights out
of New York City and strands them at the airport, the
three decide to share a rented minivan to Pittsburgh,
from where they will travel on to their separate
destinations.

For Cheever, a 40-year-old Army reservist, that
destination is St. Louis and a reunion with his wife and
son. For TK, a macho sergeant who has just suffered a
blow to his self-esteem, the goal is to see his fiancée
after first making an important stop in Las Vegas. The

tough but naïve Colee also plans to go to Las Vegas, where she is pinning her hopes on connecting with
the family of a dead fellow soldier.

What begins as a short trip for three very different personalities unexpectedly evolves into an epic
emotional journey across the United States. Forced to grapple with old relationships, broken hopes and a
country divided over the war, TK, Cheever and Colee discover that home is not quite what they
remembered and that the unlikely companionship they’ve found might be what matters the most.
