MADISON
Jim McCormick (James Caviezel) is a man with a
mission. The heritage of his town and his family is
built upon the Madison, Indiana, hydroplane regatta.
The year is 1971 and the town’s morale has hit rock
bottom as the local economy crumbles. What used to
be a thriving mid-west river port on the Ohio River is
becoming a ghost town. About the only thing that can
perk up the townsfolk is a good motorboat race.
Especially a race that hints at a chance for victory.

The odds are slim in favor of the Madison racing team,
but never say, “Never”.  Mike and his ragtag pit crew
are willing to give it all they’ve got to keep the team
afloat. And, in spite of some terrible racing accident
memories, Mike steps up to the plate when it’s
necessary. Old friend and racing expert Harry Volpi
(Bruce Dern) steps up right along side of him to get
things rolling in the direction of the finish line.

Director William Bindley (“Hoosiers” and “Rudy”) gets
credit for a fine family film that will have you
cheering for the “good guys’”. Somehow, he makes us
feel that there is a lot riding on the 1971 hydroplane
racing season than just the trophy. The story is told
through the eyes of young Mike McCormick (Jake
Lloyd), the son of Jim and a shirttail crew member of
the Miss Madison team. His take on the events and his
father’s boat racing feats are heart-warming.
