MAN OF THE HOUSE
Roland Sharp (Tommy Lee Jones) is a rugged,
well-seasoned Texas Ranger on assignment to
protect the lives of key witnesses who just
happened to see the killing of a key government
witness in a drug case. Sound serious? Well,
somewhat, but things take a somewhat light, even
fluffy, route once we discover that the witnesses
to be protected are a group of University of Texas
cheerleaders.
A rough job, but somebody has to move into the
heavily protected "safehouse" to look after the
sweet young things. Roland is up for the task, but
is not overly enthusiastic about the assignment.
As a dedicated, serious lawman he knows his
stuff and has what it takes to keep the girls safe
and in line, usually.
Directed by Stephen Hereck, the movie is an
evening's entertainment, not a work of cinematic
art.
Brenda's comments
Set in Austin, Texas, this film is a trip down
Memory Lane for UT alumni. All of the
landmarks, logos and team trademarks are
used in the film, giving it a very authentic
seal of approval. Tommy Lee Jones is as
dry as the Texas dirt in the summertime,
and it works. Anne Archer looks great, as is
her usual. And she gets the man.
Mary's comments
Tommy Lee Jones appeals to middle aged
women. This, coupled with the "jiggle
factor" of the U of T cheerleaders, makes
the film a perfect date film for a Boomer
couple. The deadpan humor of Jones is
used to the max as Roland Sharp manages
to resist the obvious and go for Molly
McCarthy (Anne Archer), the more mature
woman. You go Guy!
