MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS
                         SYNOPSIS

Mrs. Laura Henderson (Judi Dench) may be a widow
but she is by no means going to spend the rest her
days playing bridge. The Windmill Theater becomes
her game and the infamous showman Vivian Van
Dam (Bob Hoskins) becomes her partner and
fiercest opponent. The Germans are bombing
London but the roar of the Windmill is all that can be
heard, as Laura convinces Lord Cromer
(Christopher Guest) to allow her actresses to be the
one thing no one could ever imagine: Nude. Brought
to its knees by war, what Mrs. Henderson Presents
brings a nation to its feet in applause.

Mrs. Henderson Presents, directed by Stephen Fears, tells the story of Laura Henderson (Judi Dench), a
widow with money and a lot of time on her hands.  She sees an abandoned theater in London on Great
Windmill Street and decides to buy and start a show.   She hires Vivian Van Damm (Bob Hoskins) and they
run a non-stop variety program. When the show begins to lose money, Mrs. Henderson convinces Lord
Cromer (Christopher Guest), who censors the shows, that a nude was "art" and not "theater", if she
didn't move, fell under the same exemption that permitted nudes in the National Gallery. Adding nudity in
the show saves the theater. During the war all  pubs, theaters, and restaurants close but the Windmill
stays open to support the troop morale.  Both Dench and Hoskins give award winning performances.

Mrs. Henderson Presents
is one of the first movies released by Harvey and Bob Weinstein since they left
Disney/Miramax and started The Weinstein Company.
