OLIVER TWIST
                  SYNOPSIS

Following their Academy-Award® winning film,
The Pianist, director Roman Polanski and
writer Ronald Harwood re-imagine Charles
Dickens’ classic story of a young orphan boy
who gets involved with a gang of pickpockets
in 19th Century London. Orphaned at an early
age, Oliver Twist (Barney Clark) is forced to live
in a workhouse lorded over by the awful Mr.
Bumble, who cheats the boys of their meager
rations. Desperate yet determined, Oliver
makes his escape to the streets of London.
Penniless and alone, he is lured into a world of
crime by the sinister Fagin (Academy-Award®
winner Sir Ben Kingsley) -- the mastermind of a
gang of pint-sized pickpockets. Oliver's rescue
by the kindly Mr. Brownlow is only the
beginning of a series of adventures that lead
him to the promise of a better life. -- © Sony

Barney Clark plays the well-mannered Oliver that flees a workhouse to London where he gets
involved with a gang of pickpockets led by Artful Dodger (Harry Eden).   Dodger is part of a group of
boys that works for Fagin (Ben Kingsley) and Bill (Jamie Foreman).  Luck is with Oliver when he is
caught by the police.  He ends up living with the kind  Mr. Brownlow (Edward Hardwicke) but Bill is
worried that Oliver will tell Mr. Brownlow about his operation.   Oliver is kidnapped and brought back
to live with Fagin and Bill.    The film's length is a little over two hours and drags a bit in the middle.
Director Roman's Polanski's version of Oliver Twist is well-acted and supported by a lavish
production design but will anyone notice? It's been told too many times.
