Fans of the Resident Evil franchise are in for a treat with the fourth edition to the franchise, Resident Evil:
Afterlife 3D. The movie starts exactly where the third movie left off and Writer Director Anderson wastes
no time getting into the action. At the beginning of the movie the clones of Alice (Milla Jovovich) are
fighting the Umbrella Corporation in Japan; completing destroying everyone but Albert Wesker (Shawn
Roberts), the new evil Umbrella Head. Wesker barely escapes in a plane where the real Alice threatens to
cut his throat. Unfortunately, Alice is not quick enough and Wesker stabs her with a needle containing a
liquid that will remove the T-Virus from her DNA; thus making her human again. Here is where it gets a
little confusing because the plane crashes into the side of a mountain and then in the next scene Alice is
walking away from the crash. Why was she able to walk away if she was no longer a genetically
engineered fighting machine? Doesn’t really make sense and Anderson never explains. Anyway, the
movie moves on to show Alice searching for her friends that flew away to find Arcadia in the last film.
Once she arrives in Arcadia, Alaska she finds nothing but empty planes. When investigating the helicopter
her friends had used she is attacked by her old friend Claire (Ali Larter) who is experiencing memory
loss. Realizing the Arcadia signal and call out was just a trap, she heads out to Los Angeles with Claire in
search of other survivors. Here is where the real action begins. She finds survivors living in a Los
Angeles Correctional Facility which is surrounded by zombies. She flies in to help them and they are
surprised to find out that Arcadia is a ship. When they are trying to figure out how to get to the ship, the
zombies figure out how to get into the prison. The dialogue is forgettable; however, the slow motion
action scenes are astounding. The 3D effects are definitely some of the best that have been out lately and
Jovovich makes a stellar Alice. If you are not a fan of the first three this movie won’t change your mind;
however, if you are a fan this addition is sure to please.
