STARS WARS
EPISODE lll
REVENGE OF THE SITH
George Lucas takes us back to the earlier years, when
things weren't so light, and breezy out in space. It's a time
when lightsaber battles were more fiercely fought and
comic relief was hard to find. No cutsie, inter-galatic bar
scenes here to charm the socks off of the whole family,
not even a fuzzy Ewok for the little ones, but you will find
the answers to some of life's greatest mysteries. How did
young, family man Anakin (Hayden Christensen) become
the dark and evil Darth Vader? What events in his life led
him to the Dark Side of the Force? What about his
friendship with Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor)?
What's up with the creepy costume? Can R2 D2 hold is
own in a fight? Does Darth see himself as a Force of the
Dark Side, or is he just a guy who sees himself as a
crusader? And, was he required to pay child support for
Luke and Leia all those years? (Just kidding, this is not
addressed in the film.)
With only 2 hours and 26 minutes to wrap it all up, Lucas
does his best in this final, and, perhaps, the best, chapter
of the Star Wars Pre-Trilogy. With no shortage of light
saber battles, the hard core fans will get plenty of intense
action right out of the gate. The romantics will be
somewhat satiated, in a PG-13 sort of way, as Anakin and
Padme (Natalie Portman) coo over each other. However
those who are fans of great line delivery and moving
dialog may come out a little less than satisfied.
Spectacular, state of the art effects and techniques make
this film a spectacular watch. Yes, it's come a long way
since the original. And, yes, it's much darker. But maybe
we all are. It's just part of growing up.
