THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES IS SERVED ON DVD AUGUST 2

BURBANK, Calif., July 8, 2005 – Miramax Home Entertainment presents WHEN BILLIE BEAT
BOBBY, the outrageous yet true story of the famous 1973 ‘Battle Of The Sexes’ match between
Wimbledon tennis champions Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, a self-styled ‘male chauvinist.”
Academy Award® winner Holly Hunter (Best Actress, “The Piano,” 1993; “The Incredibles”) plays
Billie Jean King, and Ron Silver (“Ali,” TV’s “The West Wing”) plays Bobby Riggs. Relive the
fashions, politics and zany styles of the 1970’s in this highly entertaining movie, available on DVD
August 2.
The famous 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” is considered by many to be an early victory for feminism.
Riggs, 20 years past his prime, lives to wager on anything and everything. Tennis pro Billie Jean King
is busy organizing the members of the female tennis tour into a de facto union and winning tennis
tournaments. Riggs challenges top female players, 30 years his junior, into exhibition matches. After
Bobby defeats the number one female tennis player in the world, Margaret Court, King realizes she
needs to beat him. Following months of hype, the two face off in the Astrodome before a huge live
and television audience.
Written and directed by Jane Anderson.
