Anthony Hopkins plays Burt Monro in The World's Fastest Indian.  He is in his 60's, lives in Invercargill,
New Zealand, take nitroglycerine for his heart condition, and spent years working on his 1920 Indian
motorcycle. Burt decides to take his Indian to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and take part in the annual
Speed Week. He has only $1,200 to his name, so he takes out a loan on his house and hops on a ship and
works his way to America as a cook.  In Booneville, the drivers are sponsored by large companies, and
no one has ever seen a 1920 Indian motorcycle with a 60- year-old driver.  Burt should have registered
weeks ago but the officials take pity on him and he is allowed to race.  Burt reaches a speed of 201.85
mph even with the the muffler burning his leg.  He set a record in the category of "streamlined
motorcyles under 1000cc"  in 1967 that still stands today.  What makes this  film so endearing is the
performance by Hopkins.
The World's Fastest Indian, directed and written by Roger Donaldson,  is a
heartwarming and entertaining film that won't soon be forgotten.
